Tomorrow is the quiz covering energy problems. I will be tutoring in Room 504 in the morning. This quiz will serve as an evaluative instrument to let you (and me) know your level of understanding of these types of problems. You should be asking questions as you proceed through the problems - Is temperature changing? Is it increasing or decreasing? Is the material changing phase? Be sure to draw the warming/cooling curve for each problem before tackling the calculations. It will be important for you to develop your ability to reason through the problems, especially as we embark on the upcoming lab.
HW: To prepare for the quiz, you should review all of the Worksheets from Unit 3 and the challenge questions (focus on #1-4). I will address any questions during the first 25 minutes of class. The remaining 30 minutes will be devoted to the quiz.
For the challege questions, assume 2 sig figs for #1-5 and 3 sig figs for #6.
The answers to the challenge questions are: (1) 37 degrees C, (2) 38 degrees C, (3) All of the ice; 78g, (4) 56 degrees C or 130 degrees F, (5) 33 tons, (6) 2,850g.
